Welcome to Fox Lane

It all started with a few surplus day old chicks from a 4-H program…

Hi! I’m Holly, the face, heart and soul behind Fox Lane Brahmas

I’m so happy you’ve stopped by! Welcome to our page, where we share tidbits of our much loved little flock, our successes, failures and overall poultry breeding journey. Above is myself (and my heart-horse, Danny) in my natural state; in the saddle, in the outdoors, and in barn clothes. That’s my happy place right there.

Are you ready for a huge admission on my part?! When I first saw the Brahma chicken, I was totally unimpressed (I can hear the gasps of horror). I reluctantly purchased my first breeding pair… I thought I was crazy! BUT, things began to change. The Brahma breed has a magical way of winning you over. They’re big, gentle giants who love to visit, talk, and explore the world in a relaxed manner. They’ve been my escape, my source of joy and smiles, and an alternative focus to the bad news that is constantly thrown at us daily in the news and social media… who am I kidding, I don’t watch the news!!! All laughs aside, I’ve really found something I’m passionate about; so much so that they’ve become my focus breed over the past year. I have worked diligently to make some hard decisions about what breeds to keep, and which to re-home. I’ve been so fortunate to find some wonderful breeding homes for my Blue-Laced Red Wyandottes, Lavender Cochin Bantams, Silkies and Dark Brahma Bantams.

As the 2023 seasons begins to unfold, I look so forward to continued relationships with existing clients and the opportunity to connect with new Brahma enthusiasts. Perhaps you’re new to the breed and want to know more - let me help you fall in love!!! I’m always here as a resource and willing to share any knowledge I have.

What’ s up for 2023? Let me share the deets:

  • Vaccines, vaccines, vaccines!!! Continuing with our primary objective from last year, we will continue a vaccination program for newly hatched chicks that includes a combined vaccines for Marek’s and ILT. I realize not all looking to purchase poultry are hoping for vaccinated birds - I’m not going to lie, there is an expense associated with this…. but, I do feel it’s important to be diligent where we can about preventing these flock-destroying diseases when possible.

  • Be STILL. This is a hard one for me. 2023 is about being ‘STILL’ and giving my flocks time to develop, grow, create and prosper. Wish me luck as I attempt to execute this (hahaha, weaknesses being revealed)!

  • Still on the list from 2022: We hope to make it to a show at some point. I’m still extremely wet behind the ears when it comes to showing poultry. I have a real appreciation for breed standards, genetics, and overall breed improvement. I can’t wait to exercise all three of these areas.

The real MVP at Fox Lane Brahmas

I am the idea factory, hatching egg shopper, poultry taxi and hot mash feeder extraordinaire here at the farm. BUT, the real MVP is my husband, Rob. He has supported my dream selflessly as my passion was revealed, my goals created, and plans flourished. He has spent hours building breeding cages, chicken yards, carrying water, etc. He is my rock and without him NONE of this would be possible or tangible. So, please appreciate that behind this great flock, is an even greater husband :)
